Git missing after macOS Catalina install

On installing the macOS Catalina update, I realised that in Visual Studio Code Git is completely missing and cannot be added.

The problem is apparently XCODE.  Instructions for updating are on StackOverflow.

However, if in future that link disappears, then the answer is below.

  1. Go into Terminal, run this code and follow the update instructions:

    xcode-select --install

  2. Once it is done, restart your Mac and Git should be back in place in the Source Code section of Visual Studio Code.

That should sort out the problem. Maybe future updates won’t cause the same issue but as of the mid-October 2019 this one did.
